“Portara replaces your browser's new tab — or stays open all day as your browser home — a stunning glass dashboard you actually want to look at.”
Anyone who opens a new tab dozens of times a day and deserves better than the default.
People who care about their digital environment. They notice when something looks dated, and they'd rather look at something beautiful than something that just "works."
Professionals who live in their browser. Many keep Portara pinned as a dedicated all-day tab — a home base for bookmarks, live data, notes, and tasks. Others just want every new tab to feel like theirs.
People who build things and expect their tools to match their taste. Portara has depth under the hood — multiple pages, custom HTML cards, iCal feeds, live API data.
Users who find the browser's default new tab noisy. Portara's Zen preset is a clock, a quote, and a wallpaper — nothing else unless you want it.
Portara was built by Chris, a developer who got tired of every browser's new tab page looking like it was designed in 2005. The existing options — speed dials, motivational quote pages, and minimal clocks — all felt dated, rigid, and visually uninspiring. None of them treated the new tab as what it actually is: the most-opened page in your browser.
“I wanted something I'd actually enjoy opening — a personal cockpit with live data, clean design, and the flexibility to look exactly the way I wanted on every device I use. My phone, my desktop at home, my work laptop. I wanted one place that felt like mine.”
That's Portara. Built first as a personal project, polished into a product. The name comes from the architectural term for a grand gateway or portal — because every new tab is a small doorway into wherever you're going next.
